OK.  A quick rant.  

As some of you know, Michelle Chenard and I won a Michigan Emmy award for our music/score for TV 9 & 10's "Sacrifice & Honor:  A Tribute To Northern Michigan Veterans" documentary that aired in November 2011, and also again on July 4th of this year.

Interestingly, our local paper, the Petoskey News-Review, has refused to publish any mention of it, going so far as to completely disregard a press release from TV 9 & 10's producers themselves.  We've been told that it's too "newsy" for The Graphic (our local free entertainment rag, published by the News-Review), and that TV 9 & 10 are the News-Review's "competition" media-wise, so they won't publish it in the paper itself....where local NEWS is supposed to be printed.

What????

Where's the support for local artists/businesses who've achieved a state-wide award for their work?

If it was a Chase banker who passed his SEC exams, it'd be in the paper.

If it was an 8th-grader who made 24 points in a local basketball game, it'd be in the paper.

It it was a picture of somebody's aunt holding a copy of the News-Review in a picture of them at the Grand Canyon, it'd be in the paper.

If TV 9 & 10's Petoskey field office went up in flames, it'd be IN THE PAPER.

The Petoskey News-Review has a hard enough time coming up with daily copy as it is.  Unless, of course, there's an 8th grade basketball game.  To blatantly refuse to publish a press release from another media outlet (one of the widest reaching media outlets in northern Michigan) is simply a slap in the face.  In this day and age of dying print and newspapers failing everywhere, the News-Review seemingly has no grasp whatsoever of what it takes to remain alive as a newspaper in a small town.....SUPPORTING IT'S LOCAL BUSINESSES.

Thanks for NOT supporting local businesses, who already have it tough in these trying times.

Thanks for NOT supporting local arts, who already have a VERY difficult time in trying to achieve success living here in northern Michigan.

In short, thanks for NOTHING.
